Turning it on
In the app: Settings › iCloud, then Use iCloud. Do the same on each device.
The first time, a copy of everything on the device is kept on it, and what is already in iCloud is joined with what is here. Nothing is replaced.
On a new device, the first screen offers Already use it on another device? Bring it from iCloud. That brings your library instead of starting with new routines.
What travels
- Routines, their steps and versions.
- Runs, going and finished, with their notes, values and history.
- Entries, forms, tags, places, statuses, triggers and reactions.
- Wordings you changed, and your preferences, such as hints and how lists are sorted.
- Photos in notes, by their name in iCloud Photos, not the picture itself.
What stays on each device: shortcut links and icons, events written to your calendar, alarms, where you are and your Focus, and backups.
The watch gets everything from its iPhone, not from iCloud.
Each thing happens once
Under This device on the same screen:
- Cards and alarms at a routine's moments
- Writes to your calendar
- Notices where you are, your Focus and workouts
Keep these on for one device, usually the phone. Otherwise every device puts up the same card at seven. An iPad starts with all three off.
A run you move on any device moves on all of them. Its timers and planned starts are then kept by the device that moved it last.
What the screen says
- Up to date, with when.
- Sending 3 changes: waiting to go.
- Changes that did not win: two devices changed the same thing. The later change stands and the other is kept here.
Changes usually arrive by themselves. The app also asks iCloud every time you open it, so opening it is the way to hurry one along.
When it goes wrong
Not signed in to iCloud. Everything stays on this device until you sign in, in the Settings app.
iCloud is full. Changes wait on this device and go when there is room.
A different iCloud account is signed in. Nothing is sent to it until you say so.
Something was deleted everywhere. A delete travels like any other change. Deleted routines and runs wait in Recently Deleted for 30 days.
iCloud is not a backup. Settings › Storage › Back up everything is. See Export.
Delete from iCloud… takes this app's data out of iCloud. Every device keeps what it has.
