What can be counted from a date
| Where | How |
|---|---|
| A routine starting | Triggers → +, Before or after a date: the date, how many days before or after, and a time of day if you want one. |
| A step's time | The step's Settings → By a time, Counted on → Before or after a date: the date, the day, and the time on it. |
| A run coming back | Not now… → Come back to it… → Before or after, then pick the date under From. |
| A planned run | Plan a run, then Before or after and the date. |
Each of those lists your dates, and New date… makes one without leaving the page.
When the day is not known yet
Turn on Day not known yet and count things from the date all the same. Nothing counted from it has a moment until then: no card, no deadline, no planned start, and the run's page says it waits for the day. When you set the day, all of it is armed at once. Anything the day puts in the past is not done late by itself: In hand asks under A date moved, and a planned run that is already due starts.
Moving the date
Open the date under Dates and change the day. Under it, Counted from it lists what will move. When you press Done, the page says how many things moved.
A trigger comes once for each date. If it has already come and you then move the date, it does not come again. If the move puts it in the past before it came, it does not start late by itself: In hand shows it under A date moved, with Start and a swipe to Skip.
A run that is already going
A run counted from the date moves with it: its steps' times, a step put off and the moment it comes back. A time that had already passed and that the move puts ahead again is owed again, alarm and all.
If the run was started from the date — planned from it, or started by a trigger counted from it — and the date then slips later, the run began before it would begin now. In hand asks under A date moved: Until then puts the run down until its new start, with everything it has gathered, and it comes back on its own. Swipe for Keep going to leave it as it is. Nothing restarts. If the slip is small enough that the new start has already passed too, nothing is asked.
Linking a date to your calendar
On the date, Link to an event… or Link to a reminder… picks one item. For an event, choose whether it counts from Its start or Its end. Each time you open the app, it reads that one item again, so moving the trip in Calendar moves the date here. If the event is deleted, the date keeps its last day and says so in orange.
Linking needs full access to Calendar or Reminders. Nothing fires from the event itself: it is only where the date comes from.
When steps are already late
In hand → Time passed has Move all… for a run with several late steps. Count them from a date… keeps each step's time, now counted from the date you pick. From then on, moving that date moves all of them. See Not now and Pause.
Sharing and assistants
A routine counted from a date takes the date with it when you share or export it. On the other phone, a date with the same name is used as it is, and a new one is made otherwise. An assistant can write these too: it names the date once with its day, and counts steps and starts from it.
